The Committee for Preservation of Cultural Heritage

The Committee for Preservation of Cultural Heritage was established in 1995 as a division of the State Administration in Odessa Region and is functioning as regional public authority in the field of cultural heritage preservation according to Chapters 3, 6 of the National Law on Preservation of Cultural Heritage № 1805-III of June 8th, 2000.

The Committee supervises all research and restoration projects in Odessa Region related to historic monuments and sites and takes control over any activities which may influence physical state of the regional historic heritage structures or sites. The main purpose of the Committee is to guarantee that all activities concerned with historic monuments are conducted in full accord with specific rules established by the
National Law on Preservation of Cultural Heritage and do not have any harmful effect on these monuments.

In addition, over the past years the Committee organized several international conferences and workshops dealing with issues of inscription of Ukrainian cultural properties on the UNESCO World Heritage List, restoration and rehabilitation of particular historic sites from Odessa region.
